  • Converting yeast-based recipes to use sourdough starter
  • via Chocolate and Zucchini.

This sounds like HEAVEN to me. I’ve often wondered what I’m supposed to do when I run out of yeast? How would I take regular bread recipe and turn it into something I could make with a sourdough starter? I’m just getting into sourdough starters and making anything out of them (I totally killed my first starter, I’ll admit it), but it always seemed so limiting to me.

  • How to Start Your Own Starter
  • via Breadcetera

Since we talk about starters, here’s how to start your own. I might try this depending on how long it takes my Carl’s request to come in.

  • Pure Indian Foods
  • These guys sell organic ghee from free-range cows fed on grass. I’m excited to get some of their ghee once I run through some of the stores that I have. I have a case of Australian ghee that I purchased a while back from somewhere that I’ve got to figure out what to do with.

  • Hartstone Pottery
  • Purveyors of lead free, freezer, oven, nukrowave and dishwasher safe pottery dishware in good ole Zanesville, Ohio. I’m going to have to check them out on my way through next time.

  • Probiotic Foods Booklet
  • put together by Nourished Kitchen

Recipes for things like sauerkraut, pickled garlic, kimchi…I think I may have to pick this up!

  • Sprouted whole wheat cracker recipe
  • Perfect lard/butter pie crust
  • Sprouted flour chocolate chip cookies

  • Benefits of Bone Broths
  • via Keeper of the Home

It seems like I’ve been making my broth slightly incorrectly all this time. The letting it sit in cold water with the apple cider vinegar seemed to be the part that was missing. Perhaps that’s why my broth never really gelled that well.

  • Post about BPA in canning jar lids
  • via WhatDidSheDoToday

I’m eager to try the Tattler lids. I’m not up for spending so much money on the fancy Italian or German lids and I know that Weck is best for boiling water bath canning but not so good for pressure canning. My order of lids should be on their way to me this week and I’ll be able to give them a try to review them.

  • Film: World’s Largest
  • I must must must see this. I’m in love with all things Roadside America. My trip back home last year was the most fantastic trip ever, and every trip where I get to see all sorts of americana like that tickles me to no end. I love it! I think I’ll have to wait til it comes out on some kind of video though – too bad!

  • Nature’s Fabrics
  • A site for organic fabrics for various things. They even have neato fleece and flannel patterns.
