I suppose this is akin to my Best Moments of the Week lists, but a blogger at Bless Her Heart posted about here 30 days of a grateful heart and it sounded like a good idea. I’ve been posting one thing a day over on Facebook, but I figured I’d collect them here for posterity [...] - The same things I always love about my farm: chicken TV, sunsets sitting on the porch, a million stars, fire tv, fairy lights, just being out here. - Jogging down the dirt roads with the sun dappling through the trees, the cows, [...] My friend Sam came by today to show me how to make baguettes and croissants. We also made Smitten Kitchen’s really awesome chocolate red wine cake (which you should REALLY try, especially with that marscapone cheese icing – holy crap!). As we were cleaning up, I looked outside to see the sun setting through the trees [...] A view of some of the fires over our closest major urban area, for scale. I think I’ve just finally caught my breath. Last week, the Sunday before Labor Day, we had some friends over for a BBQ. It was windy and hot so we mostly stayed in the house all day talking and eating. I came [...] There is no place on earth that I’d rather be than right here in this moment. All my husband’s clatter was sweet and cute this morning, though I know he was frustrated and trying to be quiet; I needed to get up anyways. He came in to say goodbye and kiss me like every morning before [...] Miguel finished up the internal cross fencing this week. It’s about 800 feet of fencing, about 160 of that which is part of our existing garden fencing. He put in three access gates, two around the perimeter and one as a walk gate from the house (pictured below). The fence in red is complete this past week [...] Last week, Miguel built us a chicken run for the girls. They have been cooped up in their new coop for almost a month and their misery was showing – one egg every few days. I felt so bad for them, the new coop has a hardware cloth bottom on it for better predator protection, but [...] This last week has been getting back into the groove. I went back to work after a two week vacation to move and it felt a little strange. Since we had moved in here, I hadn’t been working so I had to shift my thinking out of the put-stuff-away, do-do-go-go mode into the sitting-behind-a-desk-and-working-all-day mode. So [...] We’ve been moved in the house for two weeks now, and I’m covered in bruises, scrapes, mosquito bites, strange rashes, and mouthwash and vinegar. It’s been a long two weeks. I go back to work tomorrow, which is going to feel really strange. As long as I’ve lived here, I’ve not been working…I’ll have to get [...] |
