I’ve heard so many things about West Texas over the years, opinions seem to vary between indifference to outright vehement bashing, but I’ve always had a soft spot in my heart for wide open places and huge skies. I hitched up my britches and Hubsand and I decided to do a mini driving vacation to Marfa, [...] I was messing around with my new copies of Photoshop and Photomatix and went out to shoot some pictures of the cloudy sky one day to test out the HDR. It’s not amazing, but it’s still pretty fun. Certainly makes my boring pasture a little more double plus than it actually [...] This tree is about 15 minutes from my house (which, by all standards is not very far out here) and I am just totally in love with it. I’ve taken pictures of it before, but I keep coming back to it. Last month, I had a eureka moment when I thought about capturing the moon setting [...] We got our first really good frost this morning. We’ve had freezes, but not really good almost hoarfrost like [...] A couple weeks back I stopped off at the really awesome garden center in town to find that the Monarchs were making there way through Texas to Mexico. There were dozens of them all over this tree, flitting about, never keeping still, flexing their wings. Open. Close. Open. [...] I’ve had to go into the office this week for work and Monday morning dawned with mist in the hollows and perfect little clouds on the horizon. I drove up one of the county roads and almost gave myself whiplash when I saw the sun rising over this field. I whipped the car into the lane, [...] A few weeks ago we finally had a couple of storm systems move through. Most of them didn’t produce much rain, less than a quarter inch in most cases and very hit or miss. We watched the radar as one big storm split in two and went right around us – so disheartening when we are [...] My friend Sam came by today to show me how to make baguettes and croissants. We also made Smitten Kitchen’s really awesome chocolate red wine cake (which you should REALLY try, especially with that marscapone cheese icing – holy crap!).
